Writing Assignment for Week 2
Posted: Aug 9 2005, 11:17 PM
As promised, here's the assignment for this week:
Write a letter to your pet.
Interpret this as you may. To give you a little help, you could write to an imaginary pet, a pet from the past, present, or future. Or maybe you could write to your pet peeve.
To quote an overly used term, think "out-of-the-box." But if staying within the box is more comfortable, that's fine too!
There are NO rules for being creative.

Here's my "pet letter" to a couple of dogs that are gone but not forgotten. I'll try to get this posted to the private area as well.

Dear Malibu & Murphy;
It’s been some time since you’ve both been gone. We think you both left us far too soon.
Malibu, you know what a big baby Murphy is and, after your passing, she went into a long spell of chronic illness. So, the vet suggested that we get her another companion dog and that’s how Miko came to live with us. She’s a small German Shepard mix about half way between your size and Murphy’s.
Interesting that Miko possess many of you personality traits, among the most obvious being a love hog.
Both kids are permanently (I hope) living away from home now with Erica settling in Reno. She comes home from time to time and, when she does, Miko sleeps with her in the guest room and lets her up on the furniture when we’re not around. Just like she did with you two.
If we let our emotions take charge, we’d probably get another dog, maybe two. But, by the time Miko passes, I’ll be getting on in years (even more than I already am) and will be too old for another “kid.” But, when that day comes, it’ll be very strange not having a dog. Then the place will really be an empty nest.
But, if there’s an afterlife, I hope to see all of my dogs and none of my in-laws. Of course, that means you’ll be sharing us with a couple of beagles and springer spaniels.
Hope to see you then.
Love,
Dad
